My name is JOHN MICHAEL BACKHOUSE Age 66,residing in the City of Newport, South Wales, United Kingdom. Born in the docks area of Manchester, during World War II. My brother and I were evacuated to the Lancashire/Yorkshire Pennines so as to avoid the bombings,remaining there until August 1957, when I joined the Royal Navy. Serving aboard three surface ships and eleven submarines before completing my service and leaving in August 1987. Becoming the owner/operator of a small Bus and Coach business. This I gave up shortly after the loss of my wife of 25 years. Returning to the Marine Engineering World. spending the next eight years as a virtual nomad, finally meeting my wife (Carol) here in Newport. We have recently celebrated eleven years together,along with our daughter Alana, and her two children, Freya aged 2 and Georgia aged 6.These two are at a very interesting stage of their life.

WHY DID I OPEN THIS SITE?

Well as an ex seviceman I have in effect retired twice. On both occasions I found myself ill prepared for the situation that I was now facing. I reasoned that there must be countless numbers of others in a similar position. They having reached retirement, whilst still having a lot to offer. Many having been forced to retire, because of company policy, aided by a Law that states that an employer can legally dispense with their services. There had to be an alternative. A place where advice and guidance could be sort. A place where people could air their views, offer help and share experiences. Where goods and services applicable to our specific needs can be offered.

Now you have found us please get involved by visting us on a regular basis. Lets all share our experiences, We have all led very different lives and have all got a story to tell. If you have not, then where have you been? Meanwhile I will do me best to research applicable news, goods and services specific to our needs.

When we embark on a journey, there has to be a Starting Point
